Read on to learn about an ongoing program a regional underwriter has been facilitating to educate its agents on specific subjects.

Alliant National Title Insurance Co., a title insurance underwriter that partners with independent agents in an attempt to improve their competitive position in the marketplace, held a nationwide forum in the company's ongoing continuing education series —"Lunchtime Updates: Alliant National Educational Series," for the organization's agents.

The latest segment of the series was titled "Profiting in the Reverse Mortgage Industry" and was attended by nearly 150 industry professionals.

John T. Gosselin, one of the nation's leading experts on reverse mortgages, and Edward Barrett, vice president of Your Home For Life, provided significant insight into the latest reverse mortgage products, pitfalls and strengths. Gosselin manages a probate administration and elder law practice in the northeast United States, and his title company specializes in reverse mortgages, serving the Northeastern United States. Barrett's Your Home For Life is a lending brokerage and senior advisor operating in New England.

"Reverse mortgages present a particularly sticky and volatile situation in today's market," said Jack Rattikin III, CEO of Rattikin Title Co. in Fort Worth, Texas, and an Alliant independent agent. "Our clients need to have the assurance that we, as Alliant National independent agents, have the most up-to-date information possible. The ‘Lunchtime Updates' make a big difference, allowing everyone in our offices to feel better equipped and more knowledgeable than most title insurance agents."

The "Lunchtime Updates: Alliant National Educational Series" is held at least quarterly, with the next forum scheduled for Spring 2008.

"Our attendance at this forum was larger than expected," said Alliant National Title Insurance Co. CEO Robert Grubb. "There is a clear indication that this level of expert education and input is valuable to us all, and we are delighted to support our Independent Agents and their clients in this pro-active fashion."

To learn more about the reverse mortgage market, there is still time to register for October Seminars' radio show "Finding New Customers: Hooking the Reverse Mortgage Market," which airs at 2 p.m. EST, Feb. 14.
